I am doing some closet clearing, and since I know plus-size clothing is hard to find, I figured I would offer up this stuff on the web. For most of these items I will only charge shipping. I will be only shipping in the US with flat-rate boxes (small, $5.95, probably good for like, one shirt; medium, $12.65, could fit I'm guessing 3-4 garments; large, $17.90, not sure maybe up to like 7) so we'll figure out how much it will cost you based on how many items you want.

Comments are screened so you can leave an email address/shipping address. Let me know what you're interested in or any questions you have. Deadline to claim stuff is 11:59PM on Thursday, June 25th, 2015, as I am totally taking the rest to Goodwill the next day.

I'm going to include as much sizing info as I can from the garments, but for reference the sewing mannequin is set to a waist of 40", hips at 45", and given one of my bras so her widest-bust measurement is 51". It's not ideal--I would have made her more plus-size if she expanded more--but so you know what you're looking at in the photos below.

Okay so I thought about the vidding over Escapade thing and my conclusion is, it is really only going to work for me if it's a super hilarious fun vid, and nothing on my plate right now quite qualifies. The only thing from the poll that comes close is the Mission Impossible vid idea and that's... we don't really have the source yet.

So I was looking back through my vid bunny entries and found this. And I uh. Recently acquired all of Wishbone in varying quality levels. And I um.

I have no song. I want it to be exuberant, enthusiastic song. I have no concept other that Wishbone is awesome. I want suggestions for you guys. In case you didn't know, Wishbone is an adorable dog who tells kids classic literature on PBS. What's the story, Wishbone?

Dog-related ideas. Story-telling-related ideas. Costume-party-related ideas. I need your song suggestions.

COME AT ME, DROLL.
jmtorres: (story of my life)
You may or may not have noticed, I've been posting to dw a lot less lately. I'm probably not going to go back to posting daily grumbles and random thoughts to dw, and if that was something you were interested in, or if we're friends enough that you'd want to keep up with me day-to-day, a lot of that kind of stuff is getting dumped into [twitter.com profile] decontextual now. At first it was just going to be a "random shit people say" amusement ground, which is why it got named Out of Context Theatre, but then I started following some fannish accounts and I got weirdly social what the hell ever: I'm [twitter.com profile] decontextual on twitter. Over here on dreamwidth I will probably be posting more essay-like content, things that have been percolating a while, as well as fanfiction and vids. If I ever finish any ever again.

Right, so that was online housekeeping. Moving on. Disjointed thoughts to follow.

Working was fucking nuts (redacted)

On Thursday I am flying out for the long weekend to see [personal profile] echan and [personal profile] jetpack_monkey (and [livejournal.com profile] diannelamerc and [livejournal.com profile] lizbetann). If there is anyone in the LA area who would like to meet up with me and/or them while I'm visiting, HOLLA.

I have this I don't even know, it might actually be a disorder, but apparently I am more likely to feel things are right with the world if I move all my crap around every year or so (if I'm not actually moving from one house to another). At present I'm considering essentially switching the TV/guest room and my bedroom--because my bedroom is bigger, and I want to turn the TV room into the VIDDING ROOM, and have my desk and vidding computer in there as well as the fiendishly clever ikea sofa bed the TV. While it would make it difficult to vid from bed, it would make vidding a) potentially more social, as covidders could hang out and clip from DVD or betas could hang out and watch random crap until needed but, like, in the same room and b) more likely to happen from some members of the House of Torres who don't like climbing over my endless piles of laundry to get to my vidding computer.

I measured everything and found a decent free designer online, floorplanner.com, and then took some screenshots:

probably only interesting to people who will actually spend time in my house )

My to-do list is full of boring, grown-up things like endless piles of laundry and car maintenance and shoes. My plotbunny list lately is all:

--Harry Dresden is Not a Lesbian (Harry always-a-woman AU, spoiler cutting here for echan, who's only read to like book 2? but this should be safe for ysobel, who said she's up to book 4 ))
--WHERE ARE ALL MY PEPPERBOT NOTES, DAMN IT THIS NEEDS MORE PLOT, hahaha Steve is all "cool! the future is awesome! who else is a robot?"
--These Mistress Pepper notes are surprisingly complete, hahaha Steve is SO confused by them switching between Mr. Stark and Miss Potts and Tony and Pepper, because it's a scene/not scene thing that they're not copping to
--somewhere in the corner, Ivan is hiding from me all smug. I'll get you, my pretty.

jmtorres: From Lady Gaga's Bad Romance music video; the peach-haired, wide-eyed iteration (Default)
I'm making this vid, right? And I noticed my canonical source gives me a foothold to mount any goddamn meta message I want.

So um.

Would anyone care to suggest favorite moments in visual media (film, tv, music video) that address:
--claiming of identity (pref female, and/or possibly queer--still arguing with self about intersectionality of this vid--protagonist)
or
--objectification of women (ie they--they!--are clearly identified as Other than the protagonist)(or um, if that's too commonplace--then say, a female protagonist experiences and hopefully rejects objectification? That would be SUPER AWESOME actually)

I'm contemplating using a segment of Bad Romance; that only leaves like twelve other slots. *ponder* I'm not a huge Buffy fan, but was there a pivotal moment where she laid claim to her Slayerness? Which would be, gosh, an identity and an Otherness all wrapped up in one.

Wow, I really wish I had some footage on the Young Wizards books. HOW DO I KEEP WANTING TO VID BOOKS.

/me contemplates DVD shelf. Hmm: Serenity, Mirromask, Witchblade, Tin Man, Alice....

And. hmm. Places where identity is also tied to technology would be useful to me. Off the top of my head, things I haven't seen that you folks might have a bead on good scenes from: Sarah Connor Chronicles, Battlestar Galactica. Others?

Okay, I also really want iconic imagery that would be recognizable to people outside of fannish circles.

And um. It would actually be SUPER hilarious to hit the 80s hard, as a completely different thematic element than I've examined so far... Ooooh. Labyrinth.

The floor is open. Suggestions?
jmtorres: Jaye from Wonderfalls; get her words out (write)
However, I am currently outlining a story which I jinxed with the claim that it could not POSSIBLY hit 50,000 words (my best guess at the moment is around 25,000-30,000 words) and I am torn about keeping it locked away until it is done or posting it in "what I wrote today" segments, which might be out of order or in desperate need of editing.

I figured I'd ask you guys if you wanna read it that way, or if some of you want to read it as a WIP and I should make a filter or another journal or something, or if I should keep it under my hat.

A brief description: It's a Vorkosiganverse ImpSec case story in which a Komarran analyst and his captain (who are fusion characters from S60 but if you don't that show--original characters!) stumble upon buried secrets of the previous generation of the Imperial family and related High Vor--but not the men's buried secrets, the women's buried secrets. This story also features: Ivan being caught at being competent, Cordelia being political, Aral being sentimental, Gregor being Imperial, Galeni handing out enough rope to hang oneself with, gays in the Barrayaran military, trouble at the Imperial Wedding, and a very pregnant Vor lady of, hmm, impeachable pedigree.

I have only been plotting this for like, four years. And I figured out all the twists, and I AM going to write it now!

jmtorres: 3D go board. Don't stand aside this time (go)
I have been burning the candle at both ends, hit the ground running at six thirty in the morning, never off work on time because it's goddamn rush season, all week long. And it's only Wednesday Thursday, and my classes start tomorrow some four hours after I have to get up, and next week I am working until 9 every night per schedule.

I keep thinking of entries I want to write and never being at a computer to write them. I want to write vidding meta. There was a entry in my head today about how vidders (ones I know anyway) choose songs, and how some songs are obvious to everyone and some are only obvious in retrospect once the brilliant vid is made. And I keep thinking about writing up some really basic Final Cut stuff, because things like markers OMG SO USEFUL yet news to some friends.

Anyway, since I am failing at getting those entries started on my own, I would like to put it out there, is there any part of vidding as a process or my vids in particular that you would like me to talk about? I am now taking questions from the audience. [personal profile] seperis, I am looking at you.
jmtorres: Neal Caffrey from the show White Collar, with hat, text: "Black Hat" (Neal Caffrey)
...that I am soliciting writing suggestions. Specifically, suggestions for the Kryptonian Neal story, because I swear once upon a time it had some kind of crime-solving plot in there somewhere, and now all the bits in my head are Peter being really nosy about the sex lives of Kryptonians, based on Neal's rap sheet.

So I was thinking that I would ask you guys who else from DCU you would like in this story, bearing in mind that you will probably have to tell me who they are, why it would be awesome, and where I can find more information about the character, as my knowledge of comics comes largely from the really good, cracky Smallville fanfiction. (My versions of these characters are... informed by early SV, and I say early because I had a look at what happened with late SV and I am honestly kind of confused as to how there is still a show; and also somewhat by the respective Superman and Batman animated series, which I haven't seen in years and am contemplating acquiring...) PS I am hoping idea for characters to toss in the story will result plot! and not more wacky sexcapades (touching. with ungloved hands. on the FACE. Kryptonians: kind of repressed).

People involved so far:

--Superman, who let Neal out of the Phantom Zone because he'd served his time, and for all Neal's shenanigans Superman really doesn't think Neal's done anything that needs a hero to stop him, Peter's doing just fine. Also Superman is generally embarrassed about Krypton--the more he learns, the gladder he is he was raised on Earth!--and he has the ludicrous idea that since Neal is on Team They Fight Crime! now he might be interested in joining the League, to which Neal's response is a succinct "fuck off and die."

--Lex Luthor, developer of the pink kryptonite which Neal successfully pitches to Peter as a safe way to keep him restrained (it's totally harmless! nobody will be mutating into anything! the only side effect it has is mild gayness. What Neal somehow failed to mention and various people including Lex, in his case because it's funny, have failed to clarify is that pink kryptonite does not actually have any effect on superpowers at all, its only effect is mild gayness). I have a scene in my head where Peter emails off a request to Lexcorp for a pink kryptonite anklet and like, half an hour later gets a phone call from Lex personally, because Lex wants to confirm the actual FBI sent him this hilarious stupidity and like, his son's friends didn't hack fbi.gov to send prank emails (Robin totally could, and it is possible Kon is a bad influence on him). So then Peter has a very strange phone conversation about princess-cut pink kryptonite and a platinum-plated titanium chain. Also Lex's senatorial, law-making activities come up later in the context of the legality of Neal's immigration and citizenship, and the Lex/Clark subtext is kind of a running gag.

--Batman. [section edited] Occasionally Batman gets in the middle of Peter's cases, much to his frustration. Also he would like to have Batman's prints and DNA on file for exclusion purposes. (BATMAN WOULD LIKE YOU TO KNOW THAT HE DOES NOT LEAVE FINGERPRINTS OR STRAY HAIRS AT CRIME SCENES. THAT IS WHAT THE GLOVES AND THE COWL ARE FOR.) Also it is not general knowledge that Batman is not a metahuman, he's just fucking crazy, though Neal knows because he's heard all the best gossip.

--[personal profile] grey_bard was suggesting potential sources of League gossip, so I have some Booster Gold and Blue Beetle to poke through.

--I was considering have Neal fanboy at Catwoman.

Who else should I toss in? Tell me why!

So you all remember I posted requesting you send me images of you doing Vulcan salutes for this vid that's due, er, tonight? I've gotten some great images--but all from white fangirls. All white is not representative of fandom as I know it and it's not the representation of fandom I want to show, so if you're a non-white fan who opted not to send me a Vulcan salute before, would you reconsider?

Email: juliette dot torres at gmail dot com.

Peace and long life.

So I am working on this vid, this crazy vid that runs all over Star Trek from TOS to Reboot and back again plus fandom on top of it. I am looking for two things right now that I would appreciate your help with, internets:

1. I am looking for media which is not Star Trek wherein characters or famous people do the Vulcan salute. I have started with this list from wiki but if you know of more, especially if you know of instance of women saluting ala Vulcan, please tell me.

2. I would love to use also in this vid images (still or video) of YOU doing the Vulcan salute. If you have ever dorked it up on camera in the past or would like to do so now, SEND IMAGES OF YOUR VULCAN SALUTATIONS TO: juliette dot torres at gmail dot com.

Feel free to dress as far up or down as you like. Seriously, this can be, like, off your webcam, or if you're into photography and wanna do something really snazzy, that's cool too. If you have a disability that prevents you from saluting ([personal profile] ysobel, I am looking at you, I totally want you in this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE), I invite you to take one of the images from wiki or Memory Alpha or to make your own, print it out, and mount a paper hand on a popcicle stick to hold while you are photographed. Personally, I think foam fingers might be even more awesome, but I don't think we have time to mock them up.

Because you see, this is for a vid due in two days. Therefore I need your images by Thursday, June 25th, 2009.

Again: Send me your images or videos of you doing the Vulcan salute! Especially if you are a fangirl! (Fanboys: I love you too. But I want my women less invisible!)

--Email to: juliette dot torres a gmail dot com
--Use the subject line: Vulcan salute
--You can send an attachment up to 10MB or send me a link. If you are using a file-sharing service I prefer to download from sendspace or megaupload.
--Include in the text of the email the name under which you would like to be credited in the vid. (I will not be linking any specific names to any specific images, but I would like to thank contributors)
--Deadline: Thursday, June 25th, 2009!

Feel free to spread this far and wide. The more the merrier!

ETA: if you are visiting my dreamwidth from livejournal and would like to comment, you'll need to go to the open id login page as there is a bug that doesn't let you login in with open id on comment pages. However, I do prefer to receive your (many and adorable) images via email, which is: juliette dot torres at gmail dot com.

ETA2: By "Thursday" I mean if it's still Thursday somewhere on the world, you can bet I'm still not done yet and you can send me salutes. Probably also on Friday, but only while it's still Friday Eastern time. Live long and prosper!

What is your favorite episode or movie of Trek? Any series. Tell me why.

I am exceptionally fond of DS9 "The Wire" personally. Because you know, I ship Bashir/Garak a lot and Garak snarking about the value of truth and lies is awesome. I also quite like TNG "Tapestry," for the moment where Picard rolls over to discover Q in bed with him.
