I am sort of torn about whether this entry is primarily notes for myself so I don't lose track of things I want to write, or at least partially for other people and/or my feedback addiction. It sort of affects whether I filter it or not, you know.
Current plotbunny batch:
Captain America somehow woke up all the Iron Man plot bunnies. And then added some more. So I have Mistress Pepper and Tony who is a nightmare running around my head, as well as Tony who built Pepper as a robot and Steve who is like "The future is so awesome! Who else is a robot?" But I also have new ones.
( the goddamn lunar base )
Further plotbunnies: Subsequently we rapidly arrive in the region of all
niqaeli's fault.
( The Lady and the Captain )
( Captain America's Clone )
Also I might be making a Losers vid. To Lady Gaga. Maybe.
Fuck all, I guess I'll go ahead and post this for people to read. It amused me to get written out. I did say I'd write things out more when I had more cope.

There's a reason I have a braintwin. Apparently it is for CRACK.
So I watched Inception months ago and it was interesting and whatever and I read fic as it was recommended on my droll and whatever but I was not hugely inspired (other than the OH MY GOD WHAT horribly straight Dom/Mal vid--so come with me up to the balcony and we'll fall like paper planes/in the morning the papers will say 'lovers fly away' WTF IS THAT EVEN besides painful, so very painful, why couldn't I have awesome vid ideas like Like a Boss? I fucking love that vid).
Then this week I went to see it with
niqaeli who had not seen it prior (we were waiting for, like, two months for it to hit the dollar theatre, and boggling at the wait) and after discussing it with her SUDDENLY MY BRAIN IS FULL OF CRACK BUNNIES.
Because, see, ( discussion of the conceit of the movie; I wouldn't think it's spoilery but wth do I know )
PS fandom why are you not all over the telepathy thing? I know the movie never mentions ESP but how else do you explain it? Has then been addressed somewhere I didn't see because I've mostly been reading stress baking AUs?
Also the telepathy issue brings up ( plot spoilers )
Then there's the shit niq has me cooking up about wtf ways to use Eames's forging abilities. She suggested in aid of someone's furry fantasy and I replied that no, wingfic was in order--
niq: Are they SPARKLY?
me: Not sparkly enough, no, because Eames has done FAR TOO MUCH RESEARCH on realistic wings--
(side note: he absolutely did vast, personal research for the blonde and is INSULTED when Arthur asks which one she's a copy of, she's a work of ART, not plagiarism, though Eames will be happy to give you references of inspiration for any body part that interests you)
At some point in the conversation niq objected to the wing fantasy belonging to Arthur because she feels fandom has made much of little with that pairing and fucked up what they had (where is the bitchy snark? and no one understands the correct usage of "darling" in the British parlance, apparently) so I said:
me: So Eames has done so much research on wings for Saito's fantasy--
niq: AHAHAHAH OMG he wants wings AND tentacles!
me: --THAT HE HAS TWO HYPERREALISTIC PROBLEMS--
niq: yes? (humoring the crazy lady)
me: 1) he smells like sea gull and 2) he's done enough research into weight-to-wingspan ratios that he can't convince himself, dream or no, that he can fly.
I am transcribing from memory of spoken conversation, not copy/pasting from IM, so I have probably lost some of the hilarity.
AND THEN THERE WAS THE OTHER ONE ABOUT WHAT DOM WANTS EAMES TO FORGE--( Read more... )
Seriously OMG I am probably never going to write any of this as actual story but it makes me so happy to have floating around in my head and it is all

"Hi," said Arthur when Ariadne opened her hotel door. He then launched into: "So Dom is an asshole who's apparently forgotten the meaning or maybe just the ethical necessity of full disclosure in our line of work."
"Yeah, I'd caught that," Ariadne said. The job was over, though, so what Dom hadn't told them couldn't hurt them now, right? "Was there something in particular you wanted to vent about that he forgot to tell you?"
"No," said Arthur. "That he forgot to tell you. See, he just confessed that he might have forgotten to mention the pon farr to you."
Ariadne stared at him. "The what?" she said flatly.
"Uh," said Arthur. "You're not familiar with Star Trek...?"
"Oh, I am," said Ariadne. "Ergo me wanting to know, pon farr has what to do with my life?"

Vids I want to see
Aug. 17th, 2010 08:56 pmVids I want to see that people around me have pitched lately:
echan's vid for White Collar to the How I Met Your Mother musical number about Suits
My brother's SGU vid to "Cabin Fever" from Muppet Treasure Island
The Red Dwarf vid
traykor and I are making to "Never Set the Cat on Fire"
jetpack_monkey's plan to vid Farscape to Alice's Restaurant OH MY GOD every time I think I've found the most hilarious line in this concept ("Just sittin' there on the group W bench") I think of another one ("And there, at the bottom of the cliff, was ANOTHER PILE OF GARBAGE!"). He hadn't heard of the revisited version and I don't know what you could do with the 18 minute gap story but I am cracking up at the mental visuals of Farscape to "I looked deep into the man's soul and I said, Chiiiiiip, was it open?"
Um so. Happy fun times crack vids in Julstown.

paper-writing is going SO well
May. 7th, 2010 12:31 pm...that I am soliciting writing suggestions. Specifically, suggestions for the Kryptonian Neal story, because I swear once upon a time it had some kind of crime-solving plot in there somewhere, and now all the bits in my head are Peter being really nosy about the sex lives of Kryptonians, based on Neal's rap sheet.
So I was thinking that I would ask you guys who else from DCU you would like in this story, bearing in mind that you will probably have to tell me who they are, why it would be awesome, and where I can find more information about the character, as my knowledge of comics comes largely from the really good, cracky Smallville fanfiction. (My versions of these characters are... informed by early SV, and I say early because I had a look at what happened with late SV and I am honestly kind of confused as to how there is still a show; and also somewhat by the respective Superman and Batman animated series, which I haven't seen in years and am contemplating acquiring...) PS I am hoping idea for characters to toss in the story will result plot! and not more wacky sexcapades (touching. with ungloved hands. on the FACE. Kryptonians: kind of repressed).
People involved so far:
--Superman, who let Neal out of the Phantom Zone because he'd served his time, and for all Neal's shenanigans Superman really doesn't think Neal's done anything that needs a hero to stop him, Peter's doing just fine. Also Superman is generally embarrassed about Krypton--the more he learns, the gladder he is he was raised on Earth!--and he has the ludicrous idea that since Neal is on Team They Fight Crime! now he might be interested in joining the League, to which Neal's response is a succinct "fuck off and die."
--Lex Luthor, developer of the pink kryptonite which Neal successfully pitches to Peter as a safe way to keep him restrained (it's totally harmless! nobody will be mutating into anything! the only side effect it has is mild gayness. What Neal somehow failed to mention and various people including Lex, in his case because it's funny, have failed to clarify is that pink kryptonite does not actually have any effect on superpowers at all, its only effect is mild gayness). I have a scene in my head where Peter emails off a request to Lexcorp for a pink kryptonite anklet and like, half an hour later gets a phone call from Lex personally, because Lex wants to confirm the actual FBI sent him this hilarious stupidity and like, his son's friends didn't hack fbi.gov to send prank emails (Robin totally could, and it is possible Kon is a bad influence on him). So then Peter has a very strange phone conversation about princess-cut pink kryptonite and a platinum-plated titanium chain. Also Lex's senatorial, law-making activities come up later in the context of the legality of Neal's immigration and citizenship, and the Lex/Clark subtext is kind of a running gag.
--Batman. [section edited] Occasionally Batman gets in the middle of Peter's cases, much to his frustration. Also he would like to have Batman's prints and DNA on file for exclusion purposes. (BATMAN WOULD LIKE YOU TO KNOW THAT HE DOES NOT LEAVE FINGERPRINTS OR STRAY HAIRS AT CRIME SCENES. THAT IS WHAT THE GLOVES AND THE COWL ARE FOR.) Also it is not general knowledge that Batman is not a metahuman, he's just fucking crazy, though Neal knows because he's heard all the best gossip.
--
grey_bard was suggesting potential sources of League gossip, so I have some Booster Gold and Blue Beetle to poke through.
--I was considering have Neal fanboy at Catwoman.
Who else should I toss in? Tell me why!

Rec, with bias
Mar. 1st, 2010 08:01 pmFor the last week or so, the bright spot of my evening has been plotting crackfic with
everysecondtuesday. She found this vid where Dean finds Castiel's stalker diary and stares in horror at the odes to his lips and the sexy dreams and the BFF 4ever! all over it and decided to write the story of how this came to pass. I aided and abetted her thoroughly and now she has posted the story in all its cracktastic glory:
Cas + Dean 4ever, on AO3 or livejournal.

SPN: The future?
Jan. 16th, 2010 09:44 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
The Network: This show is high-rating and money-making! Why would we cancel it?
Fandom: WHY GOD WHY.
Kripke: You know the whole apocalypse thing is too big, what if for season 6 we gave them a really simple thru line, you know, as simple as season one and being on a quest to find their dad.
Fandom: ...Oh. Well if you put it like that...
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I then suggested Season 6: Castiel and Gabriel on a roadtrip across America to find their father.
I then wondered, if I posted the idea to my droll, would someone write it for me?

( Sex Crimes )
Dear Yulegoat 2009
Dec. 24th, 2009 10:36 pmHi. Hi there. I realize this is late and I apologize, I hope you haven't been freaking out. I know I promised to link/list some stuff in this letter, so I'm especially sorry it took me this long to get it done.
Right, okay, my requests:
( 1. Less Than Perfect - Kipp Steadman )
( 2. Final Cut (software) - the programmers )
( 3. Raines )
Beyond fandoms: what I like.
I realized that I didn't put any pairings in any of these, so I should probably say here, I'm mostly a slasher. But I also read gen, and I also read het (and I also read femslash, although I had to remind myself to add it as a separate category, because I tend to assume "slash" swings both ways), and I also like threesomes etc. (I kind of think this is unlikely to come up with this request set, but, my favorite threesome configuration is M/M/F--Mommy and Daddy and Daddy's boyfriend!) I don't, usually, read smut, though. I'll read stories with smut in them but I tend to skim past it. Unless there's important characterization to be had in the sex, I'd druther a fade to black.
And, seriously, gen is totally fine too. (I'll note again that I didn't put any pairings on these. Heh.)
I like humor. I like crack. (If you had any desire to take a standard crack or AU trope like Age of Sail or Egyptology or Genderswap or Wingfic or With Dragons and drop it on any of these fandoms, I think I would probably die laughing. But I'm totally a fifth-wave fan; if you're going to do something like that, commit to it, invest in the detail and treat it seriously, because that's how it becomes seriously awesome.) I like irony and snark and gallows humor. I like plot. I like fluff. I hesitate to call the kind of wallowing I do with angst "like" but I do enjoy it. (I enjoy it more if everyone's dealing with angst by snarking off. Did I mention I like snark?) I like it when I read the dialogue and it sounds so true that I can hear the characters saying it in my head. I like smart. I like it when characters are smart and I like it when plots are smart and I like it when stories answer questions, and when they pose them. (This is probably related to my enjoyment of science fiction in its speculative mode, but also to my enjoyment of fanfiction as a way to fill in the blanks canon leaves, explain things left hanging.)
I've put this in two previous yuletide letters so I think I'll keep it as a tradition:
In someone's commentary on the Etiquette of Yuletide, there was mention of the struggle some authors have between fulfilling exactly a detailed request, and writing a good story. It is my feeling that this should never be an issue. If you are struggling between writing a crappy story to my specifications and writing a good story that throws them out the window, for God's sake, write me a good story.
Thank you.

season six: the crack season?
Dec. 17th, 2009 10:07 pmLast night I wanted to watch the (? I'm trying to remember if there was ever another) Christmas episode of X-Files with niq, How the Ghosts Stole Christmas. In finding which season it was in, I happened to notice the high volume of total crack episodes in season 6:
--Drive, which opened with a faux news broadcast of a high-speed chase realistic enough to confuse and frustrate wee Juls for several minutes
--Triangle, in which every act is comprised of about three long shots, tops
--Dreamland I & II, in which Mulder is bodyswapped with an Area 51 suit, but it's all retconned, except for the waterbed
--How the Ghosts Stole Christmas, in which the word "paramasturbatory" is used twice, among other hilarious tidbits
--Tithonus, in which Clyde Bruckman's prediction that Scully will never die comes to pass
--Monday, aka Groundhog's Day
--Arcadia, in which Mulder and Scully go undercover as the Petries
--The Unnatural, in which aliens came to Earth to break into pro baseball
--Three of a Kind, the Las Vegas episode, featuring the abuse of squibs
--Field Trip, in which Mulder and Scully do shrooms.
It's not that X-Files never did crack before (Jose Chung's From Outer Space, Small Potatoes, Bad Blood, the aforementioned Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose), but I rather feel that season six had a very high crack quotient. Curiously, season 7 seems to have less crack, though, still, more than the early once-a-season break-outs--it wasn't a long-term commitment to crack, I guess? In any case, suddenly I understand much better why some people draw the line on their acceptable canon at season 5? My own line is at season 7, cast changes shook up my show more than I could stand more than crack did. niq says this prefigured my fifth-wave fannishness.
Dude, screw the mytharc,
niqaeli and I should just watch the crack episodes. It. It would be a very different experience.

Fandom, I throw myself at your mercy.
Oct. 20th, 2009 03:19 amSo I've been reading Supernatural fic.
I don't watch the show. I can recognize Sam and Dean and tell them apart but really that is all. I don't participate in the fandom. I don't actually care one way or the other about Wincest (and am likely to skim past sex of any kind)[ETA: to clarify: I will read Wincest, I just probably won't be reading the sex]. What I'm here for is:
Crack. Especially long, plotty crack.
Dean adopting Hufflepuffs is win. I enjoy the genre (I assume at the small quantity I've read, two different stories on a theme implies the existence of a genre) wherein some form of hellspawn starts following them around and they can't get rid of them and eventually give in and train them to hunt or swear or whatever. I am apparently capable of enjoying completely non-supernatural AUs. My favorite part of Jack Kerouac's Guide to Becoming the Anti-Christ was totally the wedding, although the part where Sam knocks the internet out is fairly win, too. I have decided, without ever actually seeing her, that I love Ruby.
I am afraid to dive in face-first. I humbly request your recommendations to guide me. Crack! Long, plotty crack! Who can feed my addiction?
