But anyone who hasn't heard of him is dumb and mute and blind.
Dude. That's unfair.
I'm a slasher, I was an anime fan for a good few years, but I was never an X-Files fan. I'd seen three episodes in total over the years it was running on TV, and Krycek never appeared in those.
When I was at a slasher gathering a couple years ago, and people had songvids on TV, there was a Mulder/Krycek vid and when I asked "So, who's that guy?" I got the same reaction. *is still a little miffed*
Krycek isn't hydrogen. He isn't universal. You'd pick up on a little knowledge of him through being into US-TV fandoms, but if you were just into anime and not too into TV or the X-Files, it's not particularly hard to believe that you wouldn't know of him.
I never watched X-Files when it was on, but it's in my Netflix queue and I know Krycek inside and out from fic ... not that I've written him. He's just so pretty.
Dude, I've seen like, one episode of X-Files with him in it ever and I didn't recognize him until someone said his name, but I know who he is, dang it. He's in every fandom everywhere! How can anime people not know him? He'd fit into so many anime fandoms as well, as long as there were guns! Or even if not!
Dude, I've never seen any X-Files, and I still have heard of him (and that he's the little black dress of the fandom). How can you not have heard of him?
Gosh. I still have an XF/HL crossover WIP, where Rachel's an alien and Krycek killed her on Duncan's barge, thereby ruining his rug. Duncan had him up against the wall within 30 seconds (taffeta, darling).
Actually if you're 12-15 I can... kind of see not knowing him. Like, maybe coming across his name once or twice but having no idea or interest. I mean, if only because the Xfiles zeitgeist seems to have passed on.
OMG, the memories! I adored the X-Files (at least, through season six)! It was right around the airing of The Red and the Black that I bought my computer, and soon after I was checking out M/K slash.
From there a friend pointed me towards the anime fandom, and since I loved anime from a very early age, it was all to easy to fall into the anime fandoms.
Krycek was rightly named the 'little black dress' of fandom, though I honestly can see Schuldig as the anime version of that. A X-Files/WK crossover would be a wonder to behold: Crawford would give Mulder more headaches that CSM ever could, and Krycek and Farfarello working together or as enemies would be fun to imagine. Schuldig? Let him mindfuck Skinner and wreck havoc among the Lone Gunmen!
I've had people make arguments that xyz is the little black dress of anime fandom, but I think it's a harder argument to make, because anime fandom is so scattered. You never really know who's seen what, because access is limited and costly.
I like Vic a lot *too*. Your sixth option makes me cry.
The Red and the Black made me aware of the existance of slash. I didn't actually *see* the kiss (my tv reception ws *that* bad), but on the newsgroup the next day people were talking about it, and someone said "There's actually these stories..." The End.
I wasn't really into x-files... I popped in every now and then, so I do know him (in passing). I have absolutely no clue what became of him, or anything. I just remember he was sort of hard to place.
[spoilers]Skinner shot him in the head in the s8 finale "Existence"--ergo the first poll option. He actually returned as a ghost in the series finale at the end of s9, though...[/spoilers]
I know who is is, all right, but I've never read fic with him in it (mind you I've read about 3 X-Files fics in total, and they made me run away screaming).
Well, I remember reading a comment once that he's 'the Philosopher's Stone of objectionable canon', and that if you can't fix a gap by adding Krycek it can't be fixed. I always thought that was funny. But all I know about him is in fandom. Mind I read a lot of fandoms that I haven't seen the canon for - and I'm even writing for one anime fandom I haven't seen the canon for.
I was a late, late comer into the XF fandom (2003 to be exact). First fic I read was Ghosts, and then OMG went on to devour every single M/K fic -- good AND bad -- that was available on the net. *sigh* 'Twas the longest pairing I've ever stuck with. Good times.
Oh great, now I have nostalgia. How can I have nostalgia when it's only been two years?
I *do* actually prefer Vic (him not being a sooperspy sort of weighed in his favor, plus he's adorable), but Mulder/Krycek is second only to my OTP. Ah, the love.

Also, I hope you're not renting seasons of XF just for Krycek. He averaged about two episodes per season.

Kidding. I read X-Files fic a while back when I was less discriminating, and he featured prominantly in quite a few. :)

That's our boy. To read the fic, you'd think he was one of the stars of the show.

Dude. Now I shall have to reread some XF fic.
X-Files was actually my first online fandom. Ten years ago. OMG, I'M SO OLD!!!!!

This was also my reaction when I realized part of the problem with the anime kids I was talking to was generation gap.
I'm only 22! This can't be happening!

If there are any 12-15 year olds on my flist, will they please stand up so I can boot them?
I made a special exception in the case of one 17-year-old, but this is SUPPOSED to be an 18+ journal.

I'm currently eyeballs-deep in Fullmetal Alchemist. Which, like, is all about the Philosopher's Stone.
Now I'm picturing Ed trying to work Krycek into an alchemical array.
