So: the music when Kirk... just after Pike talks to him in the bar, when, in the predawn grey, he goes to stare up at the under construction Enterprise on his motorcycle... am I the only one for whom the music there is reminiscent of Someday I'll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far... where troubles melt like lemon drops away above the chimney tops that's where...? (PS ahahaha niq, the wish upon a star bit was totally throwing me, but it's not Peter Pan, it's Wizard of Oz. NO WONDER you didn't know what song I meant.)

Have decided all the cadets on the "new recruit shuttle" was um. They were all in Iowa because Pike took his likely picks for Enterprise crew on a fieldtrip to see Enterprise. That's why Uhura and Cupcake were both there. I suspect Pike of courting Bones, being like, "If you join Starfleet you can have a place in the Enterprise sickbay LET ME SHOW YOU." Because otherwise pre-SF Bones has no reason to be in Iowa, I am telling you.

There is a woman on the Romulan ship. She is credited as Romulan Communications Officer.

I maintain that Nero said, "Fuuuuuuck! Spooooock!" I mean, hey, you get one freebie in a PG-13.

So when Spock is calculating the probability of their plan failing horribly, why, I asked niq in the theater, is he asking Kirk to pass on messages as if Kirk has a greater chance of survival? She replied that he was planning to kamikaze into the Narada even then. YES. YES HE WAS. OH MY GOD EMO BRATFACE. SPOCK. YOU.

I think that's all of my new deep thoughts... the shields thing weirds me out but whatever.

(Shallow thoughts: I. When Pike says, "I'm not captain. You are," I TOTALLY EXPECT HIM TO KISS SPOCK NOW. Somehow fandom is to blame for this. Somehow.)

ETA: MY OTHER DEEP THOUGHT: Nero is all about the fuck you in the face! I mean, why did he choose to drill into planets and not just fling red matter at them? FUCK YOU IN THE FACE. And deliberately at key points tourism cultural significance on these planets' surfaces. Why was the Katric Arc Spock went to retrieve his parents and other council members from RIGHT ON TOP of the giant hole? BECAUSE NERO TURNED FUCKING MOUNT SELAYA INTO THE GIANT HOLE. I was contemplating why San Fran and not Paris on Earth, because Paris is the UFP seat, but CLEARLY NERO'S REVENGE IS ALL ABOUT SPOCK THEREFORE STARFLEET HQ IS THE PLACE TO FUCK SPOCK IN THE FACE.
