I don't recall that meta kerfuffle. I may have eyerolled and given it a miss, because I am queer? But I mean, for me fanfiction is totally a political act, and my identity is at least partly a political thing, but you know, mostly I'm queer because women: I am attracted to them. And I hear that not all slash writers feel that way. So what's true for me is not necessarily true for them. Like, a straight woman could be interested in stories of two dudes banging because she's straight and they're dudes she's attracted to, and if her definition of her identity is straight, then she's straight. (On the other hand, I also hear that most slash fans assume we're primarily a community of straight women interested in dudes banging, just like straight dudes interested in lesbians, while a number of polls seem to indicate slash fandom contains a vast number of queer women who think we're more of a minority here than we are.)
