What.

My TA called me "Connie" like, five times today.

This would be like you all calling me Jenny.

*Facepalm*

I had someone once *insist* that my name was Jacqueline (it isn't -- it's Jennifer) to the point of coming right into my face and shouting at me -- which did have the result of getting my attention, which yelling 'Jacqueline' across the room certainly hadn't. She was Extremely Put Out to discover she was wrong. The one thing I will say is that she used the whole name, not 'Jackie.'

I laugh about it now, but I was croggled by it at the time.

Names matter. And for a TA to do that -- that's just rude & thoughtless.

Srsly. I used to know a prof who insisted on calling me by my birth name, not the name I go by. It was completely a power play. Like - 'I can call you by any name I want to, and you have to answer, because I'm in charge of your shit.' So disrespectful.

I have been called many things that are not my name and people have been FLUMMOXED that I insist on being called by my name.

This does not include my grandfather who never ONCE called me by my name (to the aggravation of my father - because I realized he would never learn and my father was not willing to back down from a fight with his father. not EVER. Oh, family holidays, how FUN they were...)
