So I'm contemplating making the meat dress for Halloween. Only vegan. I, I didn't start out saying "how can I make this vegan," I started out saying "how can I recreate this effect" and the answer I arrived at was algae. Hah.

FWIW, the compressed seaweed that's wrapped around some sushi is actually toasted dried algae; I think it's called nori? You might want to check oriental food stores to see if you can find some; it might be possible to sew sheets of it together?

Yes, nori is in fact algae and not seaweed. However, she's looking at using an alginate that's used in casting molds of people for creation of individualised prosthetics.

the underlayer of gauze would be pretty easy to make.
