Rizzoli and Isles

I want to like this show. I want this show to work. I was hoping that last week's wtf boy-craziness might go away when the hot Fed whose ass they wanted wasn't a regular, but here in the first minute and a half, Isles has responded positively to flattery from an asshat who likes her (ooh, skintight!) wetsuit.

I am not outright opposed to them showing interest in men, but can they get a better class of men? Or possibly some taste? Or possibly not try to very hard to fail Bechdel at every opportunity?

I checked lightly into the source material for this show--apparently there are books. I didn't get very far because the serial killer narration in the prologue hit some squicks for me. So I have no real idea if Rizzoli and Isles talk about booooys this much in the books, but I am beginning to resign myself to dead women arranged artfully.

That's how I'm reacting. I'm about half way through the second episode and they barely seem to have scenes together - it's like the show should be called Rizzoli ...... Isles.

Sigh.

Or just 'Rizzoli'.

I want so bad to like this show. Rizzoli's awesome, Isles is awesome, together they're awesome*2, but together they could be awesome^2.
