jmtorres: T'Pol in the white version of the non-uniform, under Vulcan's orange skies (enterprise)

That takes the cake

Number one weirdest appellation by fanfic writer reluctant to just call characters by name:

The Floridian.

So the like, three extant QL/Enterprise crossovers (every fan of Enterprise wrote one?) are all about Sam leaping into Archer. Which could be fun except for how everyone knows what's going on and honestly, watching Sam flail around trying not to out himself was uh, part of the appeal. And in any case, is not actually how I generally handle same-actor crossovers. I maybe be ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE on this one but my brain always tries to supply how the two characters could be THE SAME PERSON for same-actor crossovers. Weirdly there's been no doppelganger sex in the QL/Enterprise crossovers I've found. That's usually considered a feature.

Yeah, I think I must be the odd one out in fandom, because I fail to grok the appeal of doppleganger sex.

And your Enterprise crossover story sounds way more fun! So, you know. You have a built-in audience of one here.

Well, whatever length it was, I'd read it, but I admit I'm prejudiced in favor of the T'Pol and Archer epic, so any suggestions I have would probably be biased in that direction.

Wait, I'm confused... is The Floridian a story genre or a nickname in a story (i.e. "The Floridian wiped his brow which was heavy with sweat because he lived in f'ing FLORIDA.")?

And why would people leap into Archer? I've been to Archer. It's okay and all, but it's not really an epic exotic location. I mean if you're going to leap into Florida there are more exciting locations to leap to. If you want old Southern charm, there are smaller more hidden towns. Archer is just kinda... Archer.

The Floridian, presumably, is referring to someone who is from Florida; apparently the fic author was so allergic to names they resorted to that as an epithet. No, I don't get it either.

Also I'm -- not sure if you're joking about the latter because I apparently failed my insight check hard, but she's referring to Archer as in Captain Jonathan Archer who captains the Enterprise in the show Enterprise.

*lol* Okay THAT explains my confusion. I'm not familiar with those fandoms. Archer is a town in Florida. I thought that maybe there was this subgenre of fic where characters are teleported to Archer, Florida, and it confused the hell out of me.

This makes more sense now. I'm not familiar with those fandoms. A character name makes WAY more sense then teleporting to Archer, Florida.

Yeah, see, I've always tried to figure out how they could be the same person, clearly this contributed to the braintwinnery.

(Doppelganger sex freaks me out, generally, but it is odd that there's none. Perhaps it is affected by the show/fandom being so small and generally maligned.)

*snort* I wish to know more of this Floridian - I assume he may also be "the other man," possibly "the older man" or "the brunet."

You know, in one of my fandoms one of the appellations used is "the swordsman." If an author is calling him "the swordsman" during sex, there better be a damned good reason.

If it were it'd be larger than his actual sword, which is a katana. *g* (For safe sex, would it be wrong to say that it's sheathed?)
