So I'm watching Journey to Babel, which I had not seen before, and clearly I should just cut for long commentary here.
WHY ARE KIRK AND MCCOY GETTING DRESSED IN THE SAME QUARTERS? Apparently Kirk's quarters. McCoy, did you need Kirk to zip up your dress uniform? It is beginning to look like a number of episodes will start with "Can we explain this as straight?"
McCoy had a moment of attempted cultural sensitivity! He was going to try the Vulcan salute!
OMG SPOCK DID NOT TELL THEM HIS PARENTS WERE COMING. HAHAHAH OMFG SPOCK YOU EFFED UP LITTLE MOPPET. Sarek is ignoring the crap out of Spock and Kirk asks if Spock wants to beam down to Vulcan to visit his parents before they leave and Spock is like, "...these are my parents." *DIES*
AMANDA TELLS MCCOY SPOCK HAD A TEDDY BEAR. A sehlat, which is you know, a barely domesticated vulcan mountain lion, but Amanda is you know, two steps away from pulling out the naked baby pictures.
And Sarek is like, "You cannot embarrass him! Not even his mother has that right! He is Vulcan! And a Starfleet officer!" And Amanda calls him on being a proud daddy. And Sarek SMILES AT AMANDA. In private. They are adorable. I heart them.
Plot has happened. Sarek is a suspect in a murder and also just collapsed in what might be a heart attack but McCoy is pissy about not being able to figure out Vulcan physiology enough to tell.
Kirk keeps going, "Spock! Are you okay? LET ME HELP YOU WITH YOUR SQUISHY FEELINGS" and Spock keeps going, "I assure you, I do not have any."
Now it is medical drama! Will Amanda let Spock risk his life to donate enough blood to get Sarek through the operation he needs? Will Spock change his mind about going under the needle because Kirk has been stabbed and Spock can't relinquish command of the ship? Will anyone ever give McCoy's opinion on Vulcan medicine any goddamn attention?
Right, Kirk has to go lie to Spock now for his own good. Sure, you've just been stabbed in the lung, but you an convince Spock you're fiiiiiine!

Meanwhile, Kirk and Spock discover that what makes McCoy happiest in life is being perfectly justified in telling them to lay the fuck down where he can keep an eye on them. Ahahahaha, sickbay's going to be fun for the next couple of days with Kirk and Spock and Sarek all recovering. WHY HAS NO ONE WRITTEN "Kirk is bored of recovery and shooting spitballs at Spock, while Spock attempts not to retaliate because his father is watching in growing bemusement" fic? I ask you.
