So this thing happened

For the longest time, various vidding kerfuffles seemed to be taking place in fandoms where I didn't vid, and might never, such as Buffy, Firefly, and so forth. I support Grey Day on principle, and I took my vids down to watermark them out of paranoia, but now--

Well, now I'm seeing it happen in one of my primary fandoms. Andromeda has such a small vidding community that I thought it might be safe from poaching, somehow. What I failed to take into account was that just because Andromeda vid-dom is tiny doesn't mean its vidders don't vid elsewhere.

This vidder openly admits to having stolen clips from Farscape vids, CSI vids, and Buffy vids for a multifandom vid called "Like the Sun" available on this page.

I can only assume that she didn't rip Andromeda vids off because she didn't know where to find the very few there are.

No, that's unnecessarily bitchy of me. She apparently uses show source when she has show source, even limited source of only a few episodes. But the fact that she A) doesn't seem to have any scruples about stealing source from other vids and B) vids Andromeda, where I vid, is enough to upset me.

Also, she used "Kryptonite" to vid the Andromeda episode "The Knight, Death, and the Devil." Of course, I have no leg to stand on, as I originally decided to do the song after having seen it done in SV fandom.

I'd already watermarked Kryptonite and was going to do American Tune next, but now I'm all paranoid and seriously thinking about when and if I'm going to put up my Andromeda (or other) vids again.

I emailed the person. No reply yet.

*deep sigh*

ETA: After an exchange of a few emails, the vidder has taken down the vid in question.

Just wanted to say I still don't get it. I started watching the vid but didn't finish it. I'm sick of watching bad vids because of theft. I saw a couple of Buffy/Spike shots which are easy to get on Kazaa. Plus, if she had taken time to ask people would probably have sent her the source or given her permission.

You don't own the clips. You don't own the episodes they come from. You don't own the actors in the clips. You don't own the episodes, nor the shows, nor TPTB.

You can't have someting 'stolen' from you if it wasn't your's in the first place.

I own the changes I made. I own my cuts, my effects, my fades, my zooms, my frame rate changes, etc. I spend hours of work on them.

If another vidder where to use my vids, they would be using my cuts, effects, zooms, frame rate changes, etc. And of course they wouldn't be crediting me for those changes.

What's ridiculous is most people would prefer to work from the original source and don't even realize that they're using altered source. And that if they want a copy of the original source, I'm a total pimp and share out episodes all the time.
