[community profile] yuletide reveal

So, I wrote a Hitchhiker story called Last Man Standing.

The request I was fulfilling was as follows: "Arthur/Ford slash makes me happy, especially when it contains smart as remarks about why Ford picked Arthur to be rescued from Earth!"

Which is a good question. Why Arthur? Of everyone on Earth, why would Ford decide to save Arthur?

Hitchhiker is not a fandom where you can just say "twue wuv" and get away with it. People don't get happy endings in Hitchhiker. Bad things happen to good people. Bad things happen to bad people. Bad things happen to morally indifferent people. The problem is, good things aren't absurd enough to be funny.

Calamity is universal.

Or, possibly, Ford has been cursed with abysmally bad luck.

Aw. And this, too, is a peach of a story.

Was it possible that human beings continually stated what seemed perfectly obvious to him because they were mentally stunted and for the most part didn't see the perfectly obvious at all, and shared whatever insights they had with each other in an effort to be helpful?

I decided to pop the feedback in here (even if you don't believe it *g*). The fic was in character and worked well in that fictional-verse; even better, it was very funny and made me laugh out loud in places. Still, it's the above paragraph that really amuses me. There's something so very... *true* about it. So very appropriate to the human race and wonderfully fitting for this fic.
