I am interested in starting a kinkmeme in aid of encouraging more fic in a miniscule fandom. I have never done so before. Can anyone point me towards resources (standard practices, rules I can crib, etc)? Also: should I do it on dreamwidth or should I go LJ for the numbers? Opinions?

eta: it's kinkofages for Rock of Ages (2012).

I can only answer on the last part - LJ. Numbers. Especially for a small fandom, it's vital. I know DW is preferred for most other interactions but I honestly believe kinkmemes work better on LJ.

LJ- you'll get the numbers there for a small fandom

Whereas for say over here, a big fandom like Avengers or Sherlock will get decent numbers, for small fandoms, that won't happen.

For rules, avengers kink on LJ have pretty comprehensive rules re: everything.

I don't know any resources, but I'm curious how it'll turn out.

I'm tempted to say "Dreamwidth!" too, because I know many of the changes made to LJ styles have been murder on kinkmemes -- threads that don't expand completely, ever; invisible subject lines, etc.

I really think it would depend on the fandom(s), though -- if there's a heavy presence on LJ, do it there; if there's a heavy presence on DW, do it here, and if they're split 50/50 then maybe promote it hard on LJ but actually hold it here?

I still say Dreamwidth for the infrastructure, and establish a foothold on LJ with appropriate interests and then an entry/profile that links to all the infrastructure over on DW, so people searching it out on LJ can find their way over easily.

Because there's no established fandom so far, so we may as well make use of the less awful infrastructure while not forgetting that many people search LJ first. I mean, if we're doing an anon kinkmeme, it doesn't really matter a damn which site it's on. And DW is so much less awful for kinkmemes, so. Yeah.

And, I mean. DW's OpenID implementation sucks far less than anyone else's, basically, so people can log on via their LJ userid if they really don't want to create a new account to be able to track threads and have updates emailed (which, new account creation is still open without invite codes, too? So it's not like that's a hurdle, if they'd prefer a native account).

Honestly the point's mostly moot, as neither jmtorres nor I could face the UI disaster that is LJ for even the medium-term. Establishing a foothold presence there was painful enough, tbh.

As a longtime (for some value of longtime) kinkmeme participant and veteran of several discussions on various places, if it's not spelled out there can be wank or hurt feelings about those who do or do not anon. So in the rules would be good.

But as a km veteran (which I would not consider myself!) do you see any glaring omissions in kinkofages that we should correct?

Because actors from the movie RPF is love (may be shipping Alec and Russell because of Russell's adorable interviews), but I don't see any reason whatsoever that there couldn't be fic with RL rock stars interacting with the movie characters either... after all, Patricia probably gave... comfort to more than one rock star and Constance worked for Rolling Stone so she could have met dozens... not to mention I'm sure many of them could play the club.
