Does anyone know whether Jim Butcher has read Diane Duane? Because a wizard saying "I'm in the book" is *flail* hugely fucking resonant for me, as someone who read a lot of Duane growing up. I mean, it's pretty obviously not the same universe, but "I'm in the book." As a closing line. OH HARRY.

Oh, Harry. He would be a wizard, wouldn't he? I am half-convinced that Bob is secretly his manual, but the other half insists on a real book, with pages and everything.
* High-pitched sound of glee.

It could be parallel development! It's not like the phrase doesn't go back a ways. On the other hand, the idea that your writing has been influential or inspirational for younger fantasy writers: actually pretty cool. I think I like the notion that I have the So You Want To Be A Wizard experience in common with an author whose works I am currently enjoying.
