Dear Festividder
Dear Festividder,
I think the number one thing I want out of my vid this year is joy. I want a vid that makes me laugh or warms the cockles of my heart or incites squee noises only audible to dogs. I am not up for angst or woe unless we are mocking angst and woe. A couple of my requests fall into this category; if you got matched on those/decide you like them better than the one you matched on, please keep in mind: I only want angst and woe if it is funny! Otherwise: happy happy joy joy. As general vid content and maybe also something to consider when selecting your music.
My taste in music spans decades--I like rock and pop and glam and jazz and swing and indie internet-famous geeks and alternative (whatever that encompasses at this point) and some punk and funk and soul and folk and a little country, mostly if it's funny. I like lyrics with some cleverness or snark to them (I have been guilty of punny vidding the last few vids I worked on). I like stuff with a beat you can bop along to. I've been known to refer to songs as "overproduced, but in that way that I like," though stripped down singer-and-guitar or singer-and-piano or even a capella can work for me too.
I don't have much to add to my fandom-specific notes, other than to say that of course all the details are optional and it's entirely possible you will have some brilliant idea completely different from everything I suggested.
Thank you for making me a vid.

for reference, or treat-making, my requests:
1. The 4400 - 2004 [TV]
Details: I think it would be hilarious to see a vid about promicin/superpowers to a song about drugs/getting high. Like, say, "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane--"One pill makes you larger (powers! yay!) one pill makes you small (death. booooooo.)" Or "Rainy Day Women" by Bob Dylan--stoning is execution, persecution, *and* elevation; "Everybody must get stoned!" re Collier's obsession with everyone in the world taking promicin. Or you know, something more recent, if 60s rock isn't your thing. *G*
Music: songs about drugs!
2. Eureka [TV]
Details: I think my favorite two characters on the show are Jo and Zoe, and I'd enjoy a vid about either of them (or even both if you think you can pull it off!). I'd picture a Jo vid being about how kickass awesome she is and frustrated feeling like sometimes she's getting held back, he mere deputy as long as she was, or frustrated at everyone around her being idiots, because she's so much more awesome than all of them. Or a Zoe vid--I think it might be neat to see a father-daughter vid about watching Zoe grow up smarter and funnier and better than Jack could ever have guessed when he thought she was just a brat, acting out and running away. I think he's really proud of her, you know? In that "wow, you're really as smart as the rest of Eureka, you totally didn't get that from me" way.
3. Fake News (Daily Show & Colbert Report) [TV]
Details: Okay,
niqaeli and I have had this plotbunny forever (by which I mean for like, three years). Remember when Stephen Colbert tried to put his name on the South Carolina ballot for president? We had this plotbunny where they were like, hey, it's Writer's Strike, we're totally bored, let's do this for realz and Colbert won primary after primary (blue in some states, red in others) until at some point they (Colbert and Stewart, who he asked to be his running mate to keep him SANE) were just going, "Holy crap, we're running for president." And Colbert's in character for the press the whole time but off camera he's going "what the fuck, why is anyone voting for me, this is nuts" and Stewart is doing most of the negotiation with other politicians, the off-to-the-side "Right, we have no idea what we're doing but we seem to have the vote behind us, would you like to join our administration and actually run things PLEASE SAVE US?" And then they win, and get shocking amounts of stuff done by having the comedy routine as a distraction, and then after the presidency Colbert writes a serious memoir entitled, "Dear America: What the Bleep Were You Thinking?" I have NO IDEA if this is remotely possible to vid, but vidder, if you were to, I think I would DIE. And if it will serve as any inspiration: http://jmtorres.dreamhosters.com/images/dearamerica.jpg
4. Highlander: The Raven [TV]
Details: I think Lucy is awesome, I think Amanda and Lucy are adorable together, I was so happy at the episode whose flashback featured how they met. Also I think Nick is kind of dumb if he hasn't realized that Amanda is living with her girlfriend (to be fair, even aside from the age-appearance issue, and the bisexual issue, he may not have realized Amanda swings poly, but I'm going to suggest that that's only because he hasn't really figured out what immortality means yet). Also it's really kind of sweet that Amanda has managed to make a longterm commitment to someone who's going to get old on her, I think that demonstrates a lot more depth than one generally expects from impulsive Amanda. An Amanda/Lucy vid would be lovely!
5. Indiana Jones series [Movie]
Details: I think it would be cool to see a vid on how Marion is the hero of her own story, how she holds her own even when she's a captive, how she can drink men twice her size under the table and kick ass and, I firmly believe, has plenty of adventures of her own.
6. A Nero Wolfe Mystery - 2000 [TV] (A&E movie series aired on televsion)
Details: "If our tolerance miracle runs out of gas..." There's a bit in Champagne for One when Archie is threatening to quit and Nero tells him regarding their fight, "This is natural. That is, it is in us, and we are alive, and whatever is in life is natural. You are headstrong and I am magisterial. Our tolerance of each other is a constantly recurring miracle." This points to the tone I am hoping for, with a vid about Archie and Nero, the "can't live with him, can't sell him for food" snarky, adorable, eyebrow-laden relationship where shouting and tearing up checks is love.
7. This Is Spinal Tap [Movie] *
Details: Like, with heavy irony of "it's not actually like that at all," so just, totally against lyric. They keep getting bumped and their Stonehenge is a foot and a half tall and and they're not looking for skinny girls, they want big bottoms, and they get stopped at security because the trouser stuffer sets off the metal detector. Comedy!
Music: "Rock Star" by Nickelback.
8. Young Americans - 2000 [TV]
Details: I love Jake, I love Jake a LOT, I was moved to send flaily fan email to the actress during the run of the show basically telling her she was my favorite thing ever in this role. I love the genderqueer, and her having to make Hamilton not be a stupid male chauvinist, and when Bella realizes and they have girltalk, that made me really happy--if you felt like focusing on Jake and Bella out of all my Jake flail, that would be AMAZING (I just don't know if there's enough footage to support it, heh). Also awesome: the lack of reaction from Scout and Will when they find out. It's like, 'Huh? Oh. Okay?' *laugh* And I love the parts where because of her mom or cotillion or something she's running around changing her presentation every five minutes, because the show managed to make it seem genderqueer when she presented feminine, which was awesome. (I think it's in how she was trying to hide her feminine presentation from so many people.) So yes. Jake vid, please!
