making it through the day

Yesterday I had the realization that if I were still a ballerina (I was for ten years of my childhood) I would be dead by now. See, here's the thing: if I were a ballerina, I would need to weigh literally a third of what I do. And if I had that pressure on me, the things I'd do to control my weight combined with the alternate coping mechanism I'd develop if I didn't cook and eat as coping mechanisms, mean that--yeah, I think I would be dead by now.

Wow, I've carried "if I still did ballet" guilt around with me for years. That totally puts paid to that.

I think the most hilarious part of this is I was out to dim sum with friends talking about it and all the women nodded along with the original statement of "if I were still a ballerina I'd be dead by now" like "yeah, that is a totally obvious conclusion based on ballet == pressure zone and you == fruitcake" but one of the men of the party looked at me very quizzically and asked, "Why?"

*laugh*

Today I went to Whole Food's for cope and with one basket, not even a cart, a basket, spent twice the minimum exit fee. I don't even know how that happened. I guess that makes deciding about the contacts easier.

Anyway, I thought some folks might find it amusing to know what qualities as comfort food with me, so I'm going to type up my receipt (and cry a little). I am currently drinking a glass of pomegranate wine and eating almond goat cheese on crackers and cracking up over the fact that I associate that strongly with the pastiche fanfic Dr. Jackson's Diary and not with the book it was based on, which I would not be caught dead with.

  • 2 bottles pomegranate wine (I would not have bought two except it is only available at Whole Foods and I do not go there often, like, I think last year was the last time, because WTF HOW DID I SPEND THAT MUCH)

  • shrimp bisque (for the freezer: lunch later)

  • three rolls of sushi (spicy salmon avocado, shrimp tempura, eel and avocado)

  • smoked salmon candy

  • smoked salmon

  • salmon chipotle burger patties

  • green chili shrimp

  • thai curry shrimp

  • raspberries

  • blueberries

  • blackberries

  • almond flour (thought I'd give give the berry tarts a go with pro nut flour, it's less crunchy than me chopping nuts in my food processor)

  • rainier cherries

  • unsweetened rice milk

  • almond milk (I am still experimenting with what I want to replace cow dairy with; so far I have determined I like rice milk better than soy milk and I like goat milk a lot but when I drank cow milk I drank skim and you can't get goat milk skim or even 2% and sometimes it's just too much. Previously I think I had regular, read sweetened, rice milk, and I don't think it should need to be sweetened? I am pretty sure break down of rice carbs should be mildly sweet in its own right)

  • dried mango slices

  • peanut butter pretzels (these are for [personal profile] echan)

  • goat milk ice cream in two flavors

  • goat milk yogurt in three flavors

  • lemonade

  • hot food bar: tamale and mushrooms and potatoes and butternut squash (freeze for later in the week)

  • salad bar: what I suspect is chicken curry salad even though it was grouped with the tofu, and cous-cous with exciting things in it (freeze for later in the week)

  • goat almond cheese ball/log

  • goat cheese with fennel

It's easy to come by ready made in this area anyway, if she does want to try it.
