jmtorres: Castiel speaking on his cell phone: "Even as we speak, it's... going... down." (supernatural)

all right, fine, I'm obsessed

So I only have a season or so of Supernatural left to catch up on (second season. Dude, I don't even know) but so I skipped back to 1.21 which is where I left off watching straight through sometime um, last year? And the Road So Far made me tear up and go okay, screw it, watching from the beginning, properly.

At present Mary is a big ball of fire on my screen and I'm forced to wonder: how many of Azazel's special children died in a fire because mommy walked in on things? I mean, seriously. Sure, everyone goes for the baby first in the event of an emergency, but overall it seems unwise to burn down the house of a baby you want to grow up to be hell's Jesus. And if mommy's already dead--well, what if mommy was the only caretaker in the house? Then the baby burns up? If I was Azazel I would have stuck to stabbing Mommy in the womb. Fire is sort of over the top and oh hey might kill the thing you wanted to create. Like, this is a bad plan.

Clearly any special hell's babies that didn't survive crispy mama don't deserve to be the Boy King?

ETA: Hahah Dean did not promise Sam would be back by Monday. No, no he did not. "We got a deal?" Sam says, and Dean does not answer.

ETA2: And maybe this comes up later or maybe I've just forgotten, but is any reason ever given for why Azazel offed Jess? I mean, like, what was he doing there in the first place? If he was looking for Sam, did he seriously go to Sam's residence and not use demon mojo to go where Sam actually was? And if he wasn't looking for Sam, what was he doing?

According to what YED said in AHBL1 (what is that, 2x21?), it was to get Sam back out on the road hunting things so he'd be in good shape to lead hell's army. (And presumably he did it *then* and not sooner because Sam was back somewhat in hunting mode, and would kick into gear rather than retreating sooner into denial.)

Then again, he's a /demon/, and so it may not be anything close to the truth.

Ha, I entered my comment too soon, clearly. I couldn't remember if that explanation had come from YED or not. :)7

For ETA2: I think the fanon reason for killing Jess is to Cause Emotional Trauma To Sam and to steer him away from the mundane life, both of which serve to lure him into Azazel's clutches later on. So I suppose it's a classic fridge-the-female-to-kickstart-the-hero, not just from a meta standpoint but from an internal one. I actually don't remember if that's ever confirmed (or mentioned, or whatever) in canon. I also think he wasn't exactly looking for Sam, a) because he wasn't yet sure Sam was The One, and b) because even if he would be eventually, Sam was still cookie dough. See above, re: mundane life.

... From the beginning? Seriously? Even the ones you've only just watched, even the ones with racist trucks? Because that is a level of fannish dedication I do not think I am capable of, and my hat is off to you.
