jmtorres: Rhade and Beka from Andromeda. One true universe. (AU)

...so.

[personal profile] jecook had the first Harry Potter movie on earlier and during the Sorting Hat sequence ("Wasn't that alphabetical in the book?" "Yeah. They had to make some changes in the movies...") when Harry's going "Not Slytherin not Slytherin not Slytherin!" and the Hat's going, "Really? You sure?" I thought, someone, several someones probably, must have written that AU, the one where Harry's Slytherin. Either it's Harry/Draco like vast swaths of the fandom or Harry has a star-crossed romance with Gryffindor of choice.

So, are there any good such stories? Recs, folks?

[livejournal.com profile] marthas_library The Two Households Series has Harry in Slytherin, involved with Gryffindor Ron. It's quite long and parts of it are friendslocked on the journal. If Martha doesn't friend you back promptly, you can join the yahoogroup where the story files are also available.

Many many many. But Mad Martha's (the one Zvi recced) is particularly good.

Will have to dig through my old archives, but there are SO many, and many of them quite good and interesting.

I'm nearing the end of the OMGEPIC (7 book-length fic series) Sacrifices Arc by Lightning on the Wave (who seems to have, since finishing it, mySTERiously disappeared) that involves two particularly interesting bits of AU: Harry has a twin, who is in Gryffindor, and Harry himself is in Slytherin. The twin, Connor, takes over a lot of book-Harry's personality, as well as his friendships with Hermione and the Weasleys. It is Harry/Draco, though since it starts in Year One it takes a few books for them to get beyond cautious friendship. I imagine it's one of those stories that people have very strong opinions about one way or the other, and I certainly have some issues with it, but overall I think it's really well drawn and filled with plenty of spectacular action and Plottiness. Sie especially does some really cool expansions on the way magic and wizarding society work. Oh, and Dumbledore and the Potter Seniors are not exactly... positive characters.

And I think I'ma go check out that [livejournal.com profile] marthas_library story now. :)

[livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller did, at wonderful length. That particular series is called Laocooon's Children, and alas it only made it to year three (maybe four? I think three though) before Sam was captivated by Torchwood instead. It's brilliant.

The fact that there's multiple people writing this idea tickles me.

I need to go through the rest of the movies and give them a similar 'not-quite MST3K' treatment, I think.
