I first got the "pretty, pretty princess" remarks re braiding from echan, when I was demanding she do up my battle braids for a show I was ASMing. But yeah, it's a special occasion thing, too. niqaeli's been asking me how I want her to braid my hair for the wedding.

My blue streak faded to grey this semester; the freshmen all called me ma'am. At 26 I do not feel this was a positive comment. *laugh* That's not an identity I can quite comfortably step into yet...

Oh, but this is complicated in my book; it's why I'm struggling so hard to define why I want, where that want comes from. Social programming gets inside your head until you can't tell if it's you or them. The other part, too, is that doing something to Not Be X is as reactive to social programming as doing something to Be X.
