Surfing the tubes

So for reasons that don't bear examining at the moment, I was looking up Cobra Starship's parody of Kate Perry, "I Kissed a Boy," a song which I find hilarious but about as problematic as the original (plot: singer kissed a boy to "start an altercation" and "[get] all the honeys at the club excited"; it would be nice if someone would tackle this in a way that wasn't so heteronormative with a side of "oh look it's kinky to be queer, not that I am!").

In any case I came across someone's school project music video for I Kissed A Boy and to my amusement there's not a girl in sight. You say it's all about the bitches, boy? Because I don't see any.

Well, there is the John Barrowman version of "I Kissed a Girl". Didn't change the lyrics, but *completely* changed the meaning.

IIRC, there's a Smallville "I Kissed A Girl" vid about Clark which has a similar effect.

It's hilarious to me that that video is marked that it is filmed from a "straight perspective".

Um. If that is not a technical term for the filming method, no boy, it isn't. Because with none of the women you're talking about in the frame? All I see is a guy getting all hot-eyed and stripping and making out with another guy. Awesome, but not so straight!

I gave half a thought to it having been a non-USian way of referring the second person camera work (ie he directly addresses the camera). But I figured if that were the case surely it would show up if you googled it, and googling the terms film and "straight perspective" only gets you discussion of queer/not-queer films.

Oh oh my favorite part is how that sleeve tat is not a tat, it's an actual *sleeve.* And how all of the editing and effects mojo is built around disguising that, but they left in two shots where it comes up to different parts of his arm.

The first time I heard this song, it was in a Smallville vid about Clark Kent, and his many many kisses and trysts with women. The boyfriend referenced was first Lex Luthor and then Oliver Queen. The lyrics are problematic as normally sung, but it's a perfect song for a slash vid. *shakes head in amusement*
