I have forgotten how to deal with the hoi polloi

My original plan for dreamwidth:
--crosspost most entries to DW and LJ, slowing tapering off until only big announcements are crossposted to LJ, regular content on DW
--consolidate comments on DW
--leave my LJ habitually locked; open my DW to the public until DW is out of beta

Is the last bit I'm concerned about. I'm considering going back to habitual access-locking before official release. The reason I was going to hold off that long is that DW will deal with certain bugs (openID appearing to be a non-option if anonymous commenting is disabled, unless you're already *signed in* to openID) and, I hope, release certain features (linking openID and regular accounts, if you have both) by the time we come out of beta.

HOWEVER. I don't actually like dealing with people I don't know all that much. So I am considering access-locking all my regular DW content as I do my LJ content.

Please raise your hand if you give a crap either way. Tell me why. (Dear lurkers: this means you too.)

I'm locking mine for the reasons I went friends only to begin with. It's not that I don't like dealing with new people, but I was getting some not-so-nice anonymous comments and it just made me realize that I don't know who is snooping around me home.

Am mainly using my DW to help with the crossposting to other sites; have all locked due to the fact I use way too many personal details. Also I am weary of people I don't know, or don't have common interests with (that and I just don't like people).

Kind of on topic is something I meant to mention earlier this week, I can still read your filtered posts on lj, but can't comment since I'm not on those filters here.

Oh duh! Totally missed that poll.

Last time I tried to sign into OpenID something was wonky and it just wouldn't let me. I'll have to try again and see what I can do with it.

FWIW, I'm enjoying reading your vidding stuff here on DW.

(I'm reading while logged in with a full account on DW, btw.)

I completely empathize with the dealing with people thing. *offers virtual apples* Whatever you decide, good luck!

I would play dreamwidth a bit cautiously even though I am liking it a lot. There are still some bugs that can be headaches but they are working on them.

I'm reading via LJ and would prefer to leave it that way, but in the end it's really up to your wants and needs.

I usually read via LJ, so I like your cross-posts there - I don't really have enough friends on DW to transfer anything over, but as long as you keep sending out occasional messages to alert people on LJ that you've been posting on DW, that's fine.

...I know really that wasn't what you were asking, but it influences my next opinion: feel free to lock/not lock as you wish, but please leave it open for some of us LJ lurkers to keep the possibility of reading the under-filter entries...? But really in the end it's up to you what you prefer to do.

I appreciate the crossposting because it's easier for my eyes to read my LJ setup than the font on DW.

umm, hoi polloi here. the thing about locking is that it makes it hard to get to know people. but you should absolutely do what you feel most comfortable with; if you don't want to deal with new people, then you don't. (i didn't before moving to dreamwidth, and who knows how long my enthusiasm will last, *wry grin*.)

*waves* I'm new. Been kinda following you for your stories. XD Love them, by the way.

I like to lock my friends-only posts on both accounts. It's kinda creepy when people you don't know and aren't friends with are poking through your stuff. I dunno, that may be just me. I'm also working on spending more time on DW and less on LJ, posting mostly to DW. I hope this site will continue to grow, and not end up getting dropped. Until it's on more solid footing, I will probably spend more time over on LJ though.

Again, that may just be me. <3
