I've taken to using slashgen. Largely as a "nothing happens in this story, something could, the chances of me writing a sequel in which they do sex are kind of nil, so, you know, have fun thinking whatever about their relationship in *this* story." Preslash really only works for me as a promise that slash is forthcoming.
