You guys remember my Dollhouse vid? She Walks (over me)? We look the same, we talk the same, we fuck the same, we are the same?
So I caught up on Dollhouse and I am currently ready to call Adelle as Clyde 2.0.
Reasons:
1. "I was quite the scientific mind in my day," she said sometime in the last four episodes.
2. She's British. I'm so sorry this is a clue but sometimes Joss is subtle like a brick.
3. Clyde made specific reference to not remember if his betrayer was a man or a woman; this was sideways foreshadowing.
4. The no ambition thing? The months of letting Harding be in charge? There's a scene where
echan described her as a sub who didn't know who her top was. She didn't take the dollhouse back until Boyd told her to find her fucking balls and do it. I think it's entirely possible that her new agenda is formed by what these people want from her--or maybe not even from her, just in general, but while Boyd et al kept her out of the loop she was powerless and now that she knows what they want, BAM--and they may be running around like chickens with their heads cut off wondering what the fuck she's up to, but she's like Echo in the pop star episode, solving the problem despite the client.
There is still the question of why she reacts like a regular person instead of a doll to various stimuli (the drug that gave all the dolls flashbacks and got the regular folks stoned; the mindwipe gun that knocks out dolls at fifty paces and was tested right in front of her). I can come up with a few reasons for this. Maybe she doesn't have active architecture--it is possible to brainfuck people with no implants, it just requires the lots-of-wires-poking-you-all-over set up like Priya's intake or poor blonde girl Alpha took when he first showed up (yes that is partially for recording from original, but it is also for overwriting: Alpha loaded Echo up in that half-ass chair). Or maybe her architecture is primitive enough that Topher's new toys are not backwards-compatible (she would have been one of the first dolls). As to why she didn't respond to the drug like a doll--she's carried this personality for ten to fifteen years, I'm thinking; if she hasn't integrated like Echo then she's just damn well sublimated, she's honestly really not like the dollhouse dolls who get a new personality every week. She's longterm functional as who she is, so she responded more like a regular person.
By the way, I had most of this wank on hand because I had this bunny that Topher was a gestalt of like, half a dozen original inventors. And that when you get promoted on the tech side, you get added to the gestalt and copied on it, so that Ivy gets promoted and becomes Topher, too. There was lots of fun creepy to that. I think I've been thoroughly jossed on it but AREN'T YOU GLAD I HAD THE FANWANK ON HAND?
