In early May, a friend helped me to perform a massive decluttering. In the course of it, we unearthed VAST VAST VAST quantities of my secret handwritten stories. Much of it was original fiction, but the vast majority of things that went beyond 2 or 3 pages was fanfic. Horrible, horrible fanfic. Star Wars romance fic -- pre-revelation of Luke and Leia's siblinghood! (Which means that, oh god, I must have written it circa 1979 or 1980.) Uhura fic! STTNG fic! Original fiction that stole so many tropes from Star Trek it was clear I'd just sanded off the names! PERN SELF-INSERT FIC.

It's horrifying. It's more horrifying when one's friend picks up something and starts a dramatic reading of it...

I can only be grateful that none of that early fanfic made it onto the budding Intarwebs. Because I shredded it and no one will ever be able to read it again.
