To be scrupulously fair, Lewis's Christianity was not, um, quite mainstream. Then, or now.
(This is why I always laugh and laugh and laugh at fundamentalist Christians who are okay with Narnia but Very Suspicious Of Those Magic Books.)
Though admittedly, the last book still pisses me off endlessly, there is no way to read it that does not put my blood pressure through the roof.
