I'm working on one of those soft, arty degrees, but when they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said "omniscient," so I occasionally have to face the fact that my perspective is skewed.
(I'm sure these creators would be so offended if we called their writing "fantasy" rather "sci-fi", but it is.)
I feel like some of the are aware that they're essentially writing fantasy in space/the future, and some would try to play it off as an honest mistake (like, after all, clearly it gets made a lot, common misconception, amirite?) and then some would say we're taking this too seriously and it's JUST entertainment, and then I might blow a gasket, because I'm staking my education, my career plans, my plan for world domination on the belief that entertainment media is not JUST entertainment, it has sociological impact.
*pause* I think I might need to insert an evil villain laugh here?
