innnnteresting factoid

Reboot actually does stardates in a transparent way, if a little like candy bar expiration dates: it's the year point day of the year. So for example big important events occur on 2258.42, aka Feb 11, 2258.

Kirk's birth occurs on 2233.04, aka Jan 4, 2233.

This is significant because in prime, Kirk is born on March 22, 2233.

I would like, once again, to put forward my theory that new Winona went into premature labor due to the stress of lightning storm in space. By apparently a lot.

... I kind of assumed, even on first viewing, that it was premature. Not necessarily by two months, but.

(well, I can't say for sure that that was a two-month-premature baby in her arms, *but* then again there's every possibility Kirk Prime was a late birth. so. uh. yeah.)

(randomly, I have a bizarre urge to want an icon of reboot-Kirk, possibly with spock and/or mccoy, with the "we're too pretty to die" quote from Firefly. I r dork.)

If Kirk was premature, that might explain his strong reaction to the vaccine. In Prime canon, I remember that he was allergic to Retinax, which is why he had to wear glasses. I don't remember if he had any other medical sensitivities.

I don't understand why their medical science couldn't have delayed her labour - yes, ok, they were fleeing the ship but onto a medical shuttle. If Sam can delay pregnancy in the 20th century by making a woman drunk (ish), then Star Trek Medical should be able to say 'hey, maybe now's not a good time' and zap her with something.

Ah, but then daddy would have missed the birth. But still.

Just curious, how do you know Kirk was born on March 22?

You're very smart with your Winona theory, especially when one considers that George Prime didn't(wasn't supposed to) die aboard the Kelvin because Kelvin Prime didn't have that encounter with Nero. One more way that that encounter changed the timeline would then, as you note, be Jim's premature birth.
